Hamilton arrived at HAAS in truly critical condition – emaciated, starved, covered in painful skin infections, mentally shut down, and trembling with a level of fear that only years of cruelty can create. For the first three years of his life, he knew nothing but confinement. He was kept inside a small metal dog crate, hidden in a dark room, robbed of sunlight, movement, touch, and every basic comfort animals deserve.

The day he came to us, his body told a devastating story – but we refused to let it be the ending. We wrapped him in compassion, kindness, and warmth, and immediately rushed him to Auburn University’s teaching hospital to give him every possible chance at survival. The road was long, but Hamilton is a fighter.

When he finally came home, we built him the happiest pig bedroom imaginable – because he deserved nothing less. His stall was filled with enrichment boards, a mirror so he could watch his own transformation, and even a twin bed with a soft mattress where he would climb into volunteers’ arms for long, sweet cuddle sessions. Every detail was chosen to rewrite the memories of the confined, forgotten life he came from.

Hamilton had endured so much that we gave him every little and every big thing a healed pig could dream of. And guess whose stall he took over? Psalm’s. Because the impact Hamilton had on our hearts was worthy of the space that belonged to the very beginning of HAAS.

Today, he lives beneath our sanctuary’s canopy of love, soaking up sunshine, freedom, nourishing food, and more belly scratches than he can keep up with. Hamilton has blossomed into a vibrant, joyful resident who finally knows safety. His life is a testament to what rescue really means: choosing hope for those who were never given any.
